Some Thanksgiving Inspiration
Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite time of year. I started Cafe Danielle because of my passion for food, and the holiday season is where I have an opportunity to show that off! But, with equal importance, Thanksgiving is also a time for family. Food and family - these two passions of mine were inextricably intertwined growing up. I can remember childhood memories of my mother, early to rise in the kitchen to begin preparation of a fat turkey; the sweet smell of the giblet broth simmering on the stove top.
I began my culinary education there in our kitchen as a taste tester, always offering a helping hand for our family cornbread dressing recipes. We had two variants of this dressing; one with, and one without oysters. My grandfather ”Doc” as he affectionately known-- was always partial to the oyster dressing!
For me, Thanksgiving dinner truly was always a celebration of the fall harvest. Made-from-scratch cranberry sauce, as well as the one from the can (yes - you know the one I’m talking about!). And of course, what would a thanksgiving meal be without a delightful assortment of pies, and our old-fashioned pie crust recipe.
For every event, and every dish I prepare, I bake in that same spirit and passion I remember growing up. And, I think it’s a difference that you can taste!
